Klebsiella

• Gram-negative bacillus, one of the coliform group.
• May become antibiotic resistant, when cross infection may be a problem.

Main clinical infections:

• Hospital acquired pneumonia
• Ventilator-associated pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections

Usually sensitive to

• Cephalosporins
• Gentamicin
• Ciprofloxacin
• Piperacillin/tazobactam  
• Carbapenems (imipenem / meropenem)

Usually resistant to:

• Amoxicillin  
• Vancomycin
