Tetanus Prevention

 

Vaccine contraindications

  • The vaccine should not be given to an individual suffering an acute febrile illness except in the presence of a tetanus prone wound.
  • Immunisation should not proceed in individuals who have had an anaphylactic reaction to a previous dose.
  • Immunosupressed (may not mount adequate antibody response). However it is safe to give anti-tetanus immunoglobulin to HIV patients.
