Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Terminations of Pregnancy

Swabs should be taken for chlamydia and gonococcal investigation in clinic. Specific infections should be treated if positive results obtained.

Prophylaxis   

Azithromycin 1g PO stat preoperatively plus Metronidazole 1g PR or 500 mg IV stat at procedure

 NB The azithromycin oral dose should be given after consent has been given for the procedure to continue.
