Antibiotic Guideline for the Treatment of Endocarditis:

Endocarditis 

It is essential to collect three sets of blood cultures, from separate sites (20ml per set) before treatment.

All therapy and investigation should be discussed with Microbiology/Infectious Diseases. Therapy is determined by positive microbiology results. If the patient fulfils the Dukes criteria for diagnosis but cultures are negative therapy is directed to the likely causative organsims as directed by microbiology. 

Is the patient penicillin allergic?

Yes                        No
