Antibiotic Guideline for the Treatment of Endocarditis:

++All therapy and investigation should be discussed with Microbiology / Infectious Diseases.++

Therapy is determined by positive microbiology results or the likely causative organism:

Viridans streptococci and Streptococcus bovis (penicillin MIC <0.5mg/L)
Nutritionally variant streptococci and very resistant S. bovis or viridans strep. (penicillin MIC >0.5mg/L).
Enterococci
Staphylococci (e.g Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis)
