Stenotrophomonas.

  • Gram-negative bacilli related to Pseudomonas. 

  • Relatively uncommon cause of infection; often resistant to many antibiotic agents. 

  • Main pathogen is S. maltophilia.

Main clinical manifestations:

  • Pneumonia

  • Septicaemia

  • Exacerbations of cystic fibrosis

  • Serious infections are usually seen in debilitated or immunocompromised patients.
