Co-Amoxiclav

= Amoxicillin + clavulanic acid.

Amoxicillin:

A penicillin

Clavulanic acid:

  • A ß-lactamase inhibitor which irreversibly inactivates the enzyme.

  • ‘Protects’ the penicillin from the destructive effects of ß-lactamase
